Happy Mothers Day
We came together with whānau to celebrate our beautiful mums with a special Mother’s Day High Tea. It was a time of manaakitanga — showing care and hospitality — as we shared kai, laughter, and connection.
The tamariki helped prepare special gifts to show their aroha, and the atmosphere was filled with warmth, whanaungatanga, and gratitude. Thank you to everyone who joined us — what a special way to celebrate our fabulous Mums!
Our wee artists
Painting lets toddlers explore creativity, develop motor skills, and express themselves. Every brushstroke is a step in their journey of discovery and self-expression!
Early mathematics
In preschool, learning through play underpins most of what is taught. The children had lined up some magnetic toys so with some intentional questioning from the teacher, this was extended to counting how many and then measuring using the magentic toys, all the while their social skills, problem solving and negotiation skills were being refined,
At preschool, we try to make learning fun and based on the children’s interests we observe during play.
Eid Celebrations
Our preschoolers recently celebrated Eid with a fun and meaningful shared lunch. The children learned about Eid’s traditions, including family time and the spirit of giving. Everyone brought a dish to share, creating a warm, festive atmosphere where laughter and kindness filled the room. It was a wonderful day of celebrating culture and community!
Sinhalese and Tamil New Year
We celebrated the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year at preschool. In Sri Lanka this is a time of renewal, harvest and cultural harmony. Our day will filled with bright colours, dancing and music.
Happy Birthday Deb’s
Today, we have the honor of celebrating the birthday of the wonderful Deb. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for all that Deb does and wish her a joyful and fulfilling birthday, filled with love, happiness, and all the appreciation she so richly deserves.
Happy Birthday, Deb! No-one is counting the candles!!
Grouptimes Resume
One thing that makes us different from other preschools is the value we place on our small grouptimes. It is during these times, children explore colour, numbers, phonics and movement to support brain development. These sessions create a sense of routne while fostering whanaungatanga (belonging) and manawanuitanga (perserverance), helping children build confidence as they learn.
Construction Teamwork
The children worked together to build a tall tower with colourful magnetic tiles. They shared ideas, solved problems when pieces didn’t fit, and kept trying when the tower wobbled and when pieces fell off. With teamwork and resilience, they built it as tall as themselves and were proud of what they created together!
Manaakitangi for our community
Every three months, we go through our evacuation kit and donate any food nearing its expiration to the Macaulay Street food pantry. We like to bring some kids along for the walk to help them learn about kindness and giving back to the community, showing aroha, manaakitangi and kaitiakitanga.
Celebrating Chinese/Luna New Year
Celebrating Chinese/Luna New Year in Preschool!
This week, we have been having a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year (农历新年, Nónglì Xīnnián) with the children! A highlight of the festivities was making dumplings (饺子, jiǎozi) together—a fun, hands-on activity that encouraged teamwork, fine motor skills, and cultural appreciation. A huge thank you (谢谢, xièxiè) to Amy (Ed’s mum) for sharing her knowledge, lending a helping hand, and making this experience even more special. Your support truly enriches our preschool community. Also heart-felt appreciate to Sam for organising many of this weeks events and sharing his culture with us.
